Lowell High School

public - created 06/13/04
Funny. Last week I was waiting for the light to turn green before crossing SF's Market St. near Church when I noticed an older fellow standing by. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt with the words, in dried blood red, Lowell Cardinals. So I asked him, Did you go to Lowell? He said Yes. So I said, You must have been an Indian then. And he said, Why, yes. And then he looked down at the front of his sweatshirt and laughed. Yeah, we were Indians then, he said.

You know you're a Lowellite if you remember the Lowell [fight?] song. I do, so I must be.

"With heads bared we stand
In tribute to thee
Our alma mater Lowell
How true to thee we'll be."

It's been decades since I sang that song. How many of you Indians, ahem, Cardinals remember it? What memories do you have of what has for decades been called "one of the best public academic high schools in the U.S."? Share them with us.
